Dave is the Area Director of his agency’s work in South Africa, Botswana, Madagascar, and Mauritius. Winnie, Dave’s wife, manages medical claims for the partners and serves as hostess to partners as well as those visiting South Africa to visit partners. The Pitmans have three grown children: Steve, Nancy O’Neill, and Marvin. Eighty-six partners rely on Dave’s administrative oversight through he provides encouragement, communication, and continuing education. HIV and AIDS are prevalent in South Africa. Twenty-eight percent of the people in the Pitman’s area of South Africa are infected with HIV; over 30% of those in Botswana are infected. The Pitmans offer assistance to partners in how to minister to those affected by HIV and AIDS. Dave and Winnie are also trying to learn Zulu so they might greet and relate to those people living in their immediate community.
