Steve serves as a family physician as well as Bible teacher in Yawisla, Bolivia, in the Andes Mountains. Steve and Mary have three children: Daniel, Anne Marie, and Andrew. The Hawthornes minister to Quechua Indians, an agricultural people who have maintained their traditions and language despite the dominant Spanish culture. They provide health care but also serve as a resource to the two dozen Quechua churches in the area by training their leaders and Sunday School teachers. Over twenty thriving churches have been established and the Hawthornes hope to establish a more informal relationship with church leaders in the coming year. They have been on furlough this past year in Wheaton.
