Pastor Wayne "Coach" Gordon and congregation are thankful to the Lord for his faithfulness and demonstration of power in their lives. To honor all that has been accomplished in these past twenty-five years of loving God and loving people, they are hosting a monthly preaching and lecture series. These speakers-most nationally known-have played a part at some or other in the Lawndale story. Feel free to call their church office for available dates at (773) 762-6389 or view their web site.
Coach mentioned last August in his sermon at Christ Church about a possibility for our men to walk alongside brothers involved in his church. Here are some of the details of that program called Brother to Brother. The purpose of this program is to build a friendship between a mature Christian man from Lawndale Community Church's Hope House Program and a mature Christian man from Christ Church of Oak Brook. The Hope House exists to enable men who are striving to re-enter society after prison and/or those desiring to get off drugs and/or alcohol to live for Jesus Christ. The program staff strives to disciple them as productive Kingdom Men. That is, men are introduced to the Lord Jesus Christ, connected with their family through counseling, and re-established into the community. In order to restore the community, the Hope House seeks to restore the man, which in turn helps revitalize the family, enabling the building up of the community.
For the men from Christ Church this is what would be expected:
1. Make at least a one year commitment to this partnership.
2. Meet together at least one time each month.
3. Pray for one another, together and when apart.
4. Share devotions and read the Bible together.
5. Engage in meaningful Christian fellowshipping activities together.
6. Meet each other's family.
7. Be involved in one another's life.
8. Christ Church of Oak Brook men assist Hope House men to obtain jobs.
