What is the role of the Diaconal Board?
The Book of Acts teaches that the Early Church appointed a set of reliable individuals to attend to ministries of practical assistance and mercy within the life of the church. Following this model, Christ Church also appoints women and men to a Diaconal Board whose ministry it is to:
-
Model the life of Christian compassion and servanthood
-
Pray for those within the Body who are in need of special care
-
Assist in providing hospitality to persons in times of bereavement
-
Prepare the elements for services of communion
-
Deliver flowers and encouragement to persons in the hospital, recuperating from surgery, or in other places of need
-
Render other practical assistance that reflect Christ's love.
How are Deacons and Deaconesses identified and appointed?
Candidates are presented by the existing Diaconal Board to the Board of Elders for its formal vote and approval. Diaconal candidates will normally have a well-established record of BOTH spiritual grace and practical servanthood.
